From Dr. Thurow:
If the world hates you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. / If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. / Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. / But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me. (John 15:18-21)
This week we have been given a terrible reminder of the harsh reality of what Christ tells us to expect in this world. Our prayers are with those who lost loved ones, with those traumatized by this encounter with evil, and we pray for the souls of the departed, dwelling in the hope suggested by Our Lord for those who die in His name. So often in this life we are not promised success or failure, wealth or poverty, safety or danger, not even for a single day, but we go joyfully on knowing that what we do we do in His name. We do not know what will be asked of us in this world, but we know clearly and without a shadow of a doubt for Whom we will do what we are called to do, and it makes all the difference.
We take very seriously our duty to protect everyone in our charge here at Chesterton Academy of the Incarnation and I want to reassure you that we had already been reviewing and formalizing our procedures for various security circumstances and we will continue revising and improving them as the semester progresses. The duty to protect is our first and foundational duty as educators.
May the peace that passes all understanding be with you and your family this long weekend.
